Celebrations and all are great, but what’s the history behind this day? Do you know? Don’t worry, take a quick look and never forget.

Historical Significance of Republic Day

Drafting Committee of Constitution of India

Republic Day, the day we bade farewell to the old Government of India Act from 1935 and embraced our very own Constitution on 26th January 1949 and came into effect in 1950. From then on, Indian began its journey as ‘Purna Swaraj’.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the father of our Constitution and other leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Pate and others put together a document that still drive us towards brotherhood, growth and prosperity. It’s the cornerstone of our democracy, independence, and the values that shape us as a nation.

Our Constitution starts with a powerful Preamble, paving the way to everything that comes next –

“We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and to secure to all its citizens: Justice, social, economic and political; Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; Equality of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation.”

Why is it placed at the very beginning?

It’s placed at the very beginning to remind us of the core values – justice, liberty, equality, and unity – that guide the nation and ensure the Constitution reflects the will and aspirations of the people.

School and Office Decor for Republic Day

If we rewind to a time before we found ourselves absorbed by the movie at home, remember those laddoos from school? The flag-hoisting ceremony? And those passionate performances we gave? Moreover, the excitement of decorating the classrooms and the surroundings? And this spirit isn’t limited to school alone. We experience it today in our offices as well.

Here’s where the magic happens! Republic Day Decor in schools and offices that’s bound to uplift the zeal of everyone around:

  1. Drape the Entrance: Have you thought about hanging upcycled drapes in vibrant tricolor to create a cowl effect on both sides of the entrance? If not, it’s not too late! Ask the students and employees to bring any unused dupattas or sarees from home.

Stand on a stool, have someone hold it from the back, and start gathering the pleats and pinning it to the wall. Oh, sorry, I thought it was a tutorial! Anyway, it adds a celebratory touch to any space. These reusable, sustainable drapes make a bold statement while staying environmentally conscious.

Order for a customized handcrafted tricolor totems that can be placed in a corner as a welcoming display. Or you can make it yourself using old newspapers. Buck up and start working on it already!

2. Desk and Table Decor: Crossing the entrance, you’ll spot a reception desk that is decked up with origami flowers in tricolor placed in a glass vase. You can braid the strings of each color tying one end of the desk with the other. The desk is neatly organized with handmade paperweights, a miniature tricolor flag, and organic candles in green and saffron.

Do you know what organic candles are made of?

Alright, let me break this to you – organic candles are made from things like beeswax, soy, or coconut. Totally eco-friendly, they burn clean, smell amazing, and won’t fill the air with any nasty chemicals!

How about hanging a fragrance diffuser on a bohemian woven net on one side of the desk?

3. Interactive Spaces: To make it more exciting, you should use tricolor cushions, each in one color, to furnish the sofa in the waiting area.

  • Visiting Area: Now, since it’s an interactive space, meant for people to visit and wait, we can place pleasantries like laddoos, or other kind of refreshment in a biodegradable or compostable plates, cups, and tumblers.

Why would you do that? Well, it cuts down on plastic waste. Then what? This way you’ll stick to eco-friendly options and eventually contribute to our planet’s long life.
  • Tricolor Selfie Booths: Create a selfie booth with recycled props, sustainable fabric backdrops, and LED lights, for guests to enjoy and capture memories.

4. Stages and Event Spaces:

  • Resonant Rangoli: To get creative, make rangolis resonating patterns related to independence, historical moments, symbolic elements like charkha, silhouttes of famous Indian monuments, brotherhood, our map, 3 forces of India, etc.
Ideas are truly impactful only when executed with organic colors or, even better, with fresh flowers.
  • Tricolor Potted Plants: Hello? Take of a break and plan a fun-activity a day before – get everyone together to paint mud planters in saffron, white, and green. Just make sure to stick to organic colors!
You could also go for a plantation drive with tricolored plants.
  • LED Lighting: Set up an array of LED lights to create a stunning tricolor effect. The lights can change subtly between saffron, white, and green, giving a dynamic and lively ambiance.
  • Dripping Curtains: Dripping curtains add a fancy, festive energy for the upcoming performances. When paired with a creative patriotism-inspired backdrop (Grand flag, Mother India, pigeons), they set the stage for an unforgettable Republic Day celebration.
  • Mirror and Glass Elements: Using mirrors or glass elements will reflect light and colors in unique patterns. This gives a sophisticated modern look while still tying in the national theme.
  • Floral Chandeliers: Don’t miss out on this. It will be the second center of attraction after the patriotism-inspired backdrop. You can only use flowers or you can also surround it with tricolor origami.

5. Wall Decor: What about tricolor or separate wreaths in each of the three colors? Hang them at evenly spaced intervals. The gaps will be filled by green glass bottles tied with jute ropes (to give a raw charm).

Recycled cardboard, wood, and fabric can be used to craft sustainable wall designs. There are tons of inspirations waiting for you on platforms like Pinterest and Youtube.

7. Ceiling Decorations: You can try out some modern touches like fabric or paper triangle chains, fun pinwheels, or origami pigeons that look like they’re flying! Don’t you think it’s a great way to add a playful and creative touch to the décor. Plus, it’s minimal, eco-friendly, and sure to get everyone talking!
